Are You Stuck Overthinking?
In my last blog entry, I talked about the first step of jumping before you feel ready:
Making a Decision
Deciding to go after something helps you get clear on where you want to go.
The next step is where we start to create movement and momentum by…
Making a Commitment
Even after making the decision to go bigger or try something new, most people fall back into overthinking. They still want that perfect plan. I get it. I’ve been there.
But in my experience, the plan gets built after you commit. You have to get moving first.
When I decided to move from single-family homes to commercial real estate, I didn’t know how to find, analyze, or close a commercial deal.
So…I did the only thing I could do.
I committed to making it happen…no matter what.
I started talking to people who were already doing what I wanted to do. I made new connections, asked questions, and learned as I went.
It was uncomfortable and scary. And there were times when I still put off taking action. Like cold calling the owner of a storage facility for the first time…I put it off for weeks.
When I finally made the call (even though I was scared and didn’t know exactly what I was doing), the owner was ready to sell. That was my first storage deal.
The call was the movement. The deal was momentum.
Once you commit, you stop asking, “Should I do this?”
And start asking, “How do I make this work?”
That brings us to the final step of jumping before you feel ready:
Figuring It Out
You can never have all the answers before you start. That’s why having a good network is so important.
When I don’t have the answer…chances are I know someone who does.
