Finding Hidden Revenue Streams
After a weekend of snowboarding at a mountain resort in Canada, I realized how investing in hotels has changed me. The whole time I couldn’t stop seeing the revenue streams.
Before I started learning about the endless ways you can add value to a hotel investment, I never thought about things like…
- What is the revenue per room? How does it increase or decrease according to season?
- How many events do they host a year?
- Is there any unused space?
That’s the whole point of think bigger, sooner. When you change what you focus on, your mind literally starts looking for opportunity everywhere.
Tony Robbins talks about it. It’s called RAS (Reticular Activating System). It’s the filter in your brain that decides what’s important. If you start thinking about buying a Tesla, suddenly you see Teslas everywhere. Same goes for bigger deals or additional revenue streams.
Like when I first got into self-storage, I started noticing facilities everywhere. (They really are EVERYWHERE.)
Then I started noticing the ones that needed some work and might have an owner who is ready to sell.
And it’s not just what you focus on. It’s also the people you are around and the content you consume.
Like my best friend Ginger who has worked with me for a long time now.
She used to be a flight attendant. From being around me, she started to look into real estate. Then, I told her to read Rich Dad Poor Dad.
Fast forward a few years and now she owns two rental properties and is working on a self-storage deal. It all started because of her proximity to me and what I was learning and doing.
The more you're around people who think big, the more normal it becomes for you to think big too.
What would you like to focus on?
- Is it bigger deals?
- Building income streams?
- Learning a new asset class?
Whatever it is… train your brain to start noticing the opportunities around you. They’re already there. You just haven’t seen them yet.
The more you think bigger, sooner, the more comfortable you will be with it.
Also…take a look around. Who do you spend time with? Who are your influences?
Is it time to get around people who are doing what you want to be doing?
It’s fun to make a wish. But that’s not how to make your dreams a reality. It’s only the start.
Focus on what you want. And then GO AFTER IT…one deal, one opportunity, one lesson, one new connection at a time.
